Watercolour painters working in the tradition of Turner and Sargent understood that the most powerful effects came from letting warm and cool tones flow into one another while still wet — rose bleeding into amber, ivory softening into pale grey — the result being a surface that no dry technique could produce. This Monaco Edition rug was hand-knotted in pure silk with that quality of flowing watercolour as its direct reference: warm rose, amber and ivory in organic sweeping forms, the silk pile carrying the warm palette with a luminosity that shifts between soft gloss and gentle matte as the light moves through the day.
