The Japanese art of sumi-e — ink painting on washi paper using a single brush and black ink — is built on the understanding that a decisive mark made once carries more weight than any carefully constructed composition. Masters of the form spent years learning to produce a single brushstroke that contained everything: speed, pressure, direction and intention, all visible in the dried ink. This Monaco Edition rug was hand-knotted in pure silk with that discipline as its reference: bold black brushwork sweeping across a pale ivory ground, the silk pile carrying the contrast with a natural luminosity that makes the composition feel alive rather than printed. Silk is biodegradable, naturally thermoregulating and sourced responsibly. For a living room or home office. Available in custom sizes.
