Painters who work in grisaille — the discipline of rendering everything in tones of grey — discover that a surface of pure tone relationships, with no colour to distract from them, produces a visual experience of unexpected warmth and depth. Monaco Edition hand-knotted this wool and silk rug in that monochrome tradition: charcoal, warm grey and pale ivory in a weathered surface composition, the silk content giving the near-neutral palette a natural luminosity that prevents it from reading as simply absent of colour.
