AK47 Design

AK47 Design creates luxury fire pits and fireplaces that represent the pinnacle of Italian fire engineering. Each piece is handcrafted in small batches using precious materials like brushed stainless steel, blackened carbon steel, and artisan-finished corten. Their collection includes sculptural outdoor fire pits that serve as garden centrepieces and architectural indoor fireplaces designed for luxury homes. AK47 Design doesn't mass-produce - every fire feature receives individual attention from master craftsmen who've perfected techniques passed down through generations. These aren't standard heating appliances but bespoke fire sculptures that happen to generate exceptional heat whilst commanding attention in any setting.

AK47 Design: The Italian Fire Pit Brand That Takes the Long View

The name is not an accident. AK47 stands for a standard set in 1947 — the year something was engineered so precisely that it is still in use today. The Italian brand borrowed that logic and applied it to outdoor fire pits: objects built without compromise, from materials that improve with age, for spaces where quality actually matters.

Founded in northern Italy near Lake Como, AK47 Design has spent nearly two decades making fire pits that landscape architects, interior designers, and private clients keep returning to. Not because of marketing, but because the pieces hold up — in every sense of the phrase. Corten steel develops its protective patina slowly over months of outdoor exposure, moving from the natural blue-black state at delivery through to the dark amber-brown it keeps for decades. That ageing is structural, not cosmetic. The patina is the protection.

What the Collection Covers

Each model in the AK47 range addresses a different set of conditions, so the choice comes down to site and scale rather than preference alone:

  • Zero — the most versatile piece, available in six diameters from 1,000 mm to 3,000 mm. Circular, low-profile, and configurable for wood, LPG, gas, or bioethanol. The largest version weighs 600 kg and ships as an assembly kit. Doubles as a wood store when not in use.
  • Toast — a square format for terraces where a circular footprint does not work. Designed by Ivano Losa, it includes an integrated log store and a removable combustion chamber that lifts out with two handles for cleaning.
  • Hole — a countersunk pit that sits flush with the ground at 200 mm high. When the cover plate is in place, it can be walked over. Intended for gardens where the ground itself is part of the design.
  • Discolo — a portable bowl on a galvanised tripod, supplied with a carry bag. The only model in the range built to move between locations.
  • Zen — a round steel crown with a built-in brazier, designed to be filled with volcanic stone, gravel, or sand around the fire. Can be countersunk into the ground like Hole.

Every model ships with a steel cover plate that seals the combustion chamber — keeping ash contained and the surface usable when no fire is lit. Stainless steel grill kits are available across the range, converting any fire pit into a barbecue without modification to the piece itself.

Who Buys AK47 Design — and Why

The brand is specified across private gardens, hotel terraces, restaurant courtyards, and golf club grounds. That range of settings reflects the practical thinking behind the design: AK47 fire pits are not scaled for residential use and awkwardly placed into commercial projects. The Zero, for instance, works equally in a 50-square-metre London garden and on the outdoor terrace of a Michelin-starred restaurant — because the proportions are genuinely considered across both contexts.

Build-to-order lead times run to approximately four weeks from Italy, which means these are not impulse purchases. They suit clients who are already deep into a garden design or outdoor renovation project and want a piece that will still be in the ground, unchanged, in thirty years.
