Japanese shibori dyeing — where cloth is bound, stitched and compressed before immersion in the dye bath so that the resist pattern appears only after the ties are removed — produces surfaces of organic complexity that no designed pattern achieves. Each piece is unique because the compression of the fabric is never exactly repeated. Monaco Edition drew from that shibori quality for this viscose rug: deep rust and warm ivory in an organic scattered composition, the plant-derived viscose pile carrying the warm pigment with a natural luminosity.
