The artists who worked on unprimed canvas — leaving the raw linen visible between and beneath their marks — were making a statement about honesty: that the ground itself was worth seeing, and that painting was a conversation between the mark and the surface it was made on. This Monaco Edition rug was hand-knotted in wool with that same directness: a warm, natural ground with a texture that comes from the material and the making rather than from any applied design. The hand-knotted construction gives the surface a density and character that machine-made pieces at this scale cannot replicate. A rug that suits any room and improves with every year of use.
