Large squares of deep charcoal, warm sand and slate blue are joined by loose gestural lines that cross the surface as though drawn freehand across the seams — a composition that blends the tradition of patchwork textile with the visual language of contemporary drawing. The inspiration came from the culture of antique quilt-making, where offcuts of precious fabric were assembled into something new and the joins between them became part of the design's beauty rather than something to be hidden. Woven in wool and viscose, the contrasting materials add a subtle play of sheen and matte across the different tonal fields, giving the surface more depth than its apparent simplicity would suggest. A piece that feels both collected and considered.
