Medieval cartographers decorated the margins of their maps with symbolic creatures, heraldic devices and botanical marks — not because the information was uncertain but because they understood that a document of the world should be beautiful as well as accurate. Monaco Edition hand-knotted this rug with that cartographic ornament tradition as its reference: warm gold and charcoal symbolic marks distributed across a pale ground in a composition that reads as both ancient archive and contemporary floor art.
