Two cranes move through a field of deep black and warm amber — a composition that draws directly from the Kano school of Japanese painting, where master artists of the Edo period reduced their subjects to the most essential elements and trusted the negative space to carry as much meaning as the mark. Hand-knotted in pure wool by Monaco Edition, the pile holds both the depth of the dark ground and the warmth of the amber field with a density that only this technique produces. Wool is naturally resilient, temperature-regulating and biodegradable — one of the most ecologically sound luxury fibres available, and one that improves with careful use over years. A rug for a living room or dining space where art and function are expected to meet at the same level. Available in custom sizes.
