Colour field paintings from the 1960s used the grid not as a cage for ornament but as a structure for colour relationships — each cell a different tone, the whole surface reading as a composition of visual heat and cool. Monaco Edition drew from that colour grid tradition for this handcrafted rug: fields of warm rust, deep teal, olive and pale ivory arranged within a fine grid structure, the composition carrying the intelligence of a palette that has been worked out rather than assembled by accident.
