Yayoi Kusama began drawing obsessive repeating lines in childhood as a way of managing her relationship with the world around her — the accumulation of marks across a surface eventually producing compositions of extraordinary visual richness from a single repeated gesture. Monaco Edition drew from that obsessive line quality for this wool rug: flowing parallel curves in warm rose and ivory moving across the surface in a composition that reads as both botanical and abstract, each line following the next with the logic of something made in continuous motion.
