The classical medallion rug format was developed in the royal Persian workshops of the 16th century as a way of organising an entire large surface around a single radiating centre — a design logic so resolved that it remained the dominant format in luxury rug-making for five centuries. This Monaco Edition rug was hand-knotted in wool with that format given a contemporary treatment: the medallion set within a field of deep teal and navy, the surrounding border clean and precise, the whole composition sitting with the authority of a design that has been refined over generations.
