The Synthetic Cubist painters of the 1920s began collaging gold and ochre papers into their compositions — discovering that warm metallic tones gave geometric abstraction a physical weight and warmth that pure colour alone could not achieve. This Monaco Edition wool rug draws from exactly that discovery: abstract forms in warm gold, dark charcoal and ivory assembled on the surface with the confidence of a composition that was resolved in the first sketch.
